Reasons to Come for a Visit and Stay a Lifetime …

One visit to historic Franklin, North Carolina and you will discover why we fell in love with this area of WNC. Incorporated in 1855, Franklin is famous for its scenic beauty, mountain vistas, outdoor activities, slower pace of life and its people. You’ll find friendly smiles and hellos and you’ll make friends easily and soon you’ll feel as if you’ve lived here forever.

Franklin is nestled in the southwestern corner of North Carolina and serves as the southern gateway to the Blue Ridge Mountains and Great Smoky Mountains. Its’ convenient location to major cities make Franklin a favorite retirement and relocation destination for people of all ages.

Franklin is located between two popular scenic gorges, the Cullasaja and the Nantahala. The Cullasaja takes some spectacular spills creating lower Cullasaja Falls. Take a walk behind the roaring 75 foot wall of water of Dry Falls. The mountainscape is lined with many hiking trails, including the famous Appalachian and Bartram Trails. Franklin also is home to the Little Tennessee River Greenway, one of more than a thousand such trails snaking their way across America turning old canals, abandoned rail beds and forgotten riverbanks into green recreational corridors. You can walk or bike for miles along the paved Greenway in Franklin.

Downtown Franklin is located less than 10 minutes from Featherstone. Along the way is groceries, restaurants, and other service based businesses. Once into historic downtown Franklin you’ll find the courthouse, banks, churches of every denomination, businesses, restaurants, museums, and shoppes. Franklin has all the necessities and service stores such as Lowe’s, Kmart, Walmart, Ingles, Bi-Lo, fast foods and more. It’s not a resort town that closes after the season. Franklin has recently been accepted into the Historic Main Street Preservation Program so wonderful transformations will be taking place to renew the downtown historic areas.

Highlands and Cashiers are located within 25 minutes of the houses. Heading to Highlands you take on one of the most scenic roads in the country along the Cullasaja River, passing two waterfalls. It is breathtaking. You can then travel on to Cashiers or bypass Highlands into Cashiers directly.

The 441/64 Bypass located less than 3 miles from Featherstone takes you east to nearby Dillsboro, & Sylva, and beyond to Waynesville & Asheville (approx. 1-1/4 hrs.) or you can head west to Murphy and Andrews or to Atlanta just 2-1/2 hours south. Herrod’s Cherokee Casino and the Cherokee Reservation are about an hour north of Franklin and skiing/tubing can be found in Maggie Valley near Waynesville about 40 min. away. The Nantahala Outdoor Center is in Bryson City just 45 in. to the northeast.

So, as you can see, Franklin is a great central location in Western North Carolina.

Mountain Festivals are abundant and downtown Franklin comes alive every Saturday evening during the summer and fall months with Pickin’ on the Square. Live entertainment and fun – a step back in time. It’s one of the things that drew us to the area. We are also surprised by the wonderful restaurants and the variety offered for a small town.

Come for a Visit and Stay a Lifetime.
